Liposuction Surgery Philadelphia
Certain areas of the human body tend to collect and store fat despite our efforts to eliminate it through diet and exercise. Liposuction aims to eliminate fat pockets and give you a more sculpted appearance. It is most commonly used to eliminate fat in the legs, arms, chin, neck, stomach and buttocks. Dr. David Horvath uses safe, effective liposuction techniques and technology to produce beautiful and proportional results. Dr. Horvath can determine which liposuction method is right for you following a physical examination and discussion of your aesthetic needs and goals.
It is important to realize that all of the above techniques may be utilized at the same time to provide the most artistic body contour and that Dr. Horvath uses SAFELipo with all of his liposuction techniques. Dr. Horvath can determine the right liposuction technique(s) for you following a personal consultation.
Tumescent liposuction involves the injection of a special “wetting” solution, which eliminates some of the common side effects of liposuction and shortens the recovery period. The wetting solution contains a local anesthetic to numb the area and reduce pain, and epinephrine to shrink the blood vessels and minimize bleeding and swelling. Once the wetting solution has been injected into the targeted area, the fatty tissue swells and firms, becoming easier to extract from the body. Thanks to the wetting solution, patients have less blood loss (during surgery), post-operative pain, bruising and swelling. Also, in some cases the use of local anesthetic makes general anesthesia unnecessary, thereby eliminating the possibility of side effects that can accompany general anesthesia (e.g., post-operative nausea).
Power-assisted liposuction incorporates a special device that makes it easier for Dr. Horvath to remove fat. He uses a thin, hollow tube called a cannula, which is powered by an electric motor, to break up fat and speed its removal. The cannula vibrates to break up surplus fat so it can be easily suctioned from the body. This technique and technology enables Dr. Horvath greater control during treatment, for more predictable outcomes.
Power-assisted liposuction is also gentler on the body’s tissues, for reduced post-operative bruising and a shorter recovery period.
Power-assisted liposuction and tumescent liposuction techniques can be combined when appropriate.
360-degree liposuction, also known as circumferential liposuction, focuses on eliminating unwanted fat and sculpting the body contours in the entire torso (360 degrees around the body), including the stomach, hips, waist and back. Treating these areas at the same time allows patients to achieve a slimmer silhouette and more proportionate body contours.
Traditional liposuction methods address one treatment area at a time. 360-degree liposuction is a great option for patients with multiple trouble spots throughout the torso, including the waist, back, abdomen and hips. Dr. Horvath typically uses this method in conjunction with other body contouring procedures, such as Brazilian butt lift. In Brazilian butt lift, the buttocks is augmented and lifted for a more curvaceous backside using harvested fat from another body area. 360-degree liposuction can be used during Brazilian butt lift to create a slimmer waistline and a more attractive and proportionate overall figure.
360-degree liposuction can be combined with other liposuction techniques when appropriate. It may also be used to treat body areas other than the torso, such as the upper arms and thighs.
SAFELipo is the newest development in an age old technique of liposuction. It has advanced our ability to provide consistent results with unmatched artistic vision. SAFE liposuction is a three-step liposuction process that works to produce superior fat reduction and contouring results. It is also the technique needed to provide revisions on patients who have had prior liposuction that resulted in unwanted and irregular contours. The first step is separation, during which Dr. Horvath will use specialized probes to separate the targeted fat cells from the surrounding tissues, without damaging them or the supporting blood vessels. This step allows the fat cells to loosen and emulsify without the generation of heat, which eliminates the risk of damaging cells and tissue with thermal energy that other liposuction techniques use.
The second step is aspiration, which means removal of fat cells using suction. Compared to other liposuction methods, SAFELipo uses smaller and thinner cannulas to remove the fat cells, which minimizes the risk of damaging the fat layer, blood vessels and surrounding tissue that will remain in the body following liposuction. This step minimizes the bruising, swelling and other post-op side effects associated with traditional liposuction methods.
The final step is fat equalization. Once the unwanted fat is removed, Dr. Horvath turns his attention to the remaining fat and tissues that remain after liposuction. Using small probes, Dr. Horvath will smooth out the remaining fat for more proportionate and natural-looking body contours. This method eliminates the appearance of lumps, divots and other unattractive results following liposuction.
In a nutshell, SAFELipo can provide more natural-looking body contours while minimizing some of the post-op side effects and risks associated with other techniques. SAFELipo can be combined with other techniques, including power-assisted liposuction, to produce better results.
Natural Fat Harvest/Grafting
Sometimes, your own unwanted fat can be used to enhance another volume-deficient area. Fat harvest/grafting is a two-part process in which your own fat is taken from an area of excess and injected into another area of your face or body to add fullness. For example, Dr. Horvath can remove surplus fat from your abdomen or thighs and inject it into your buttocks to add roundness. Or, he can extract fat from your abdomen and use it to enhance your cheekbones.
Fat grafting offers two primary benefits: the “donor” area of the body will look slimmer and more sculpted, and thin or flat areas get an added boost or lift. Also, since it is your own natural fat, the risk of complications or adverse reaction is minimal. This is a great option if you would like to enhance an area of your face or body, but are hesitant about using an artificial implant.
To begin a fat grafting procedure, the donor fat is extracted from the abdomen, thighs or hips using liposuction techniques. It is purified and prepared for re-injection. Then, Dr. Horvath injects small amounts of the fat into the treatment area, focusing on producing smooth and even results.
