Realistic Breast Augmentation with Lifelike Implants

Having a shapely, full bustline is no longer just for the lucky few who attain it naturally. With breast augmentation, women with all different body types can have their breasts enhanced to create that curvy figure they have always wanted. Dr. David Horvath tailors his approach to each patient, taking into account skeletal structure, tissue, the desired outcome, postoperative care, and cost to choose exactly the right breast implants. Our practice treats breast augmentation patients from Doylestown, Abington, Huntingdon Valley, and other Philadelphia-area communities with high-quality, personal care and exceptional medical skill.

Breast Implants

Breast implants are made of soft silicone shells that are filled with either a saltwater solution (saline implants) or silicone gel (silicone implants). Dr. Horvath has studied various types of breast implants and has been extensively involved in many silicone breast implant studies. He has also participated in studies at the Cleveland Clinic on cutting-edge cohesive gel or "gummy bear" implants.

Dr. Horvath takes the patient’s unique needs and goals into account in all breast augmentation procedures. He will help you choose safe options that are appropriate for your figure and your enhancement goals. Specific types of implants are chosen based on tissue characteristics, starting breast size, and the ultimate volume desired. Dr. Horvath will discuss, in detail, all aspects of the implant procedure with the patient before surgery. Contact our office to set up a consultation and explore all the breast augmentation options available to you.

Saline Breast Implants

Saline breast implants consist of a silicone shell filled with a sterile saltwater solution. In the unlikely event of a rupture, the body quickly and safely absorbs the saline filler, making it clear that the implant has ruptured and needs to be replaced. Because they are filled after implantation, saline implants allow Dr. Horvath to make smaller incisions than those required for silicone gel implants.

Silicone Breast Implants

Dr. Horvath uses silicone implants in many breast augmentation, breast reconstruction, and breast lift procedures. Silicone breast implants have a more natural feel because silicone’s texture is similar to that of real human breast tissue. They are made of a silicone shell filled with a silicone gel. In 1992, silicone implants were taken off the market because of questions about their safety. After conducting several studies and not finding any evidence of the implants being unsafe, silicone implants were reapproved by the FDA in 2006 for general use in breast surgery by properly trained and educated surgeons such as Dr. Horvath.

Mentor MemoryGel™ Implants

In some cases, Dr. Horvath uses the MemoryGel™ implant, which is manufactured by the Mentor Corporation. This implant has a more natural look and feel than many silicone implants. The MemoryGel™ implant is filled with a cohesive gel rather than a liquid, allowing it to hold together as a unit. Cohesive gel breast implants such as the MemoryGel™ implant closely resemble natural breast tissue in both appearance and texture.

The Breast Augmentation Procedure

There are many different ways to perform breast augmentation. The procedure involves placing an implant behind the breast tissue through incisions in one of several locations. Dr. Horvath works closely with each patient to choose the best incision location. Silicone breast implants must typically be placed through incisions along the inframammary fold at the base of the breast. Because saline implants are inflated after implantation, Dr. Horvath can place the incision for the implant in a number of different locations, and will chose one where the scar will be the least conspicuous.

Depending on the patient, the implant will be placed either in front of the chest muscle or behind it. Placing the implant behind the muscle produces the most realistic breast augmentation results for many patients, but may also require a longer recovery period.

Breast augmentation is generally an outpatient procedure that takes about one to two hours to complete and requires general anesthesia. Breast sensitivity and soreness are common, temporary side effects of the procedure, but Dr. Horvath prescribes medication to reduce postoperative discomfort. Normal, daily activities can usually be resumed about two to three weeks after breast augmentation.

Some studies show that up to 60 percent of men are affected by gynecomastia, a condition in which excessive fat or glandular tissue builds up in the breasts. It can make men feel very self-conscious, but there is a remedy. Dr. Horvath can remove the excess fat and tissue to create a firmer, more masculine chest contour. Treatment may vary depending on the cause of gynecomastia. Dr. Horvath will generally use liposuction to remove the excess, although some patients may warrant a more invasive procedure. Dr. Horvath will go over all of your options to determine the best treatment for you.
