Choosing the right plastic surgeon is the most important decision you will make in planning for your body contouring surgery. Dr. David Horvath has the experience and skill you can trust for beautiful and natural-looking results. As a staff surgeon and member of the body contouring team at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic for eight years, he taught plastic surgery residents and honed the skills necessary to give you his finest work. Dr. Horvath performs plastic surgery after weight loss, including full body contouring, to help his patients from throughout the Philadelphia area achieve a more attractive body contour.

Body Contouring

Many factors influence which body contouring procedure is right for you, including the amount of excess fatty tissue, the quality and tightness of the overlying skin, and the underlying muscle tone. Dr. Horvath will make you feel comfortable while he carefully examines you and points out which features can be successfully addressed. During this examination, you will have the opportunity to see and understand how plastic surgery will specifically improve your body contours.

Plastic Surgery after Weight Loss

Major weight loss due to bariatric surgery or a successful diet and exercise program is a life-changing event. But the experience often leaves conspicuous — and permanent — excess skin that has lost its elasticity and drapes the body in heavy folds. Dr. Horvath removes this excess skin and tissue — under the arms, in the breasts, and around the stomach, thighs and buttocks — through body contouring.

For both men and women, the skin and tissue left over after significant weight loss can make getting dressed a chore, limit clothing options, impede mobility, and even lead to painful skin irritation. Aside from medical issues, after losing so much weight, patients want their bodies to more closely match the new image they have of themselves. Plastic surgery can be performed to remove excess skin and tissue after weight loss in order to reveal a new, slimmer figure.

A variety of plastic surgery procedures may be appropriate after weight loss, including procedures targeting the arms, legs, breasts and body. Many patients choose to incorporate abdominoplasty and liposuction as a part of their plastic surgery treatment after weight loss. Here at the Horvath Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Horvath can give you the body you’ve always dreamed of!

Circumferential/Body Lift

As a part of plastic surgery after weight loss, Dr. Horvath offers a variety of procedures to give the entire body a full surgical makeover. A combination of body contouring procedures, including arm lift, breast lift, and posterior lift, can re-contour your entire body for natural curves and a sculpted figure. This treatment plan is often useful for patients who want to have a variety of procedures completed in a short amount of time, or for patients who are dissatisfied with the results of other standalone plastic surgery techniques. This form of body contouring can take up to 10 hours, and Dr. Horvath will go over all of your options with you at your initial consultation to determine whether you are a candidate. Arm Lift

Arm lift removes unwanted, sagging skin on the upper arms that may create an unattractive appearance or may be difficult or uncomfortable to move. During the procedure, Dr. Horvath will create an incision on the inner surface of the upper arm, typically from the elbow to the armpit. Through this incision, Dr. Horvath will remove unwanted excess skin, and if necessary, will use liposuction techniques to remove fatty deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. The underlying tissues will be tightened and the remaining skin will be re-draped over the arm to create a smoother and slimmer contour. Because the incisions will be placed on the inside of the arm, the resulting scars will only be seen when you raise your arms. But with proper care, the scars should fade over time, making them hardly noticeable.

Thigh Lift

Thigh lift treats loose skin on the inner thighs that has lost tone and elasticity due to massive weight loss. During thigh lift, Dr. Horvath will make an incision along the groin crease, extending downward and wrapping around the back of the thigh. The doctor will then trim excess skin and use liposuction techniques to remove stubborn fat in the area. The remaining skin and tissue will then be pulled upward until the skin is taut. Following thigh lift, patients are happy with their thinner and more toned thighs. Many patients also report increased mobility and comfort during physical activities, including exercise.

Breast Lift

Breast lift reshapes and repositions breasts that have become saggy or deflated due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging or massive weight loss. The incision technique used will depend on a number of factors including how much skin needs to be removed and whether breast implants will be placed. Dr. Horvath will trim excess skin and reshape the breast mound to create a more attractive shape. The breasts will also be positioned higher on the chest wall. If necessary, the size of the areolas will be reduced. Women who desire fuller breasts can combine their breast lift with saline or silicone gel implants. The result of a breast lift is perkier, younger-looking breasts.

Brazilian Butt Lift

Brazilian butt lift is a popular procedure among body contouring patients that desire a bigger and shapelier buttocks while simultaneously slimming down another body area.

“As we examine more carefully the aging body, we have learned that one of the issues with loose skin is not the relaxation of the loose skin alone but also the loss of the natural amount of supporting fat,” Dr. Horvath says.

The procedure augments the buttocks using unwanted, surplus fat from another body area such as the abdomen, flanks or thighs. First, the fat is removed from the donor area and purified. Once ready, the fat is carefully re-injected into specific areas of the buttocks in order to improve the overall shape and fullness of the buttocks. Dr. Horvath may primarily focus on adding fullness to the upper quadrant of the buttocks to achieve a “lifted” effect. Patients love Brazilian butt lift because it creates a more proportional and more attractive body figure, narrows the waist line and provides definition to the upper aspect of the buttock to make it sexy. Because Brazilian butt lift uses only the patient’s body fat to augment the buttocks, it minimizes or completely eliminates some of the inherent risks that are associated with traditional butt lift with implants. It is important to realize that many different cultures enjoy slightly different buttock shapes and hip ratios. Dr. Horvath is well attuned to the individual artistic visions of his patients and will use imaging on the office computer to ensure that you and he have the same artistic vision.

Candidates for a Body Lift in Pittsburgh

Good outcomes from body contouring surgery are best achieved when these important criteria are met:

  • Weight trend: Has your weight been stable for a year with no further weight loss expected? Your weight must be stable before you can undergo body contouring.
  • Good overall health: Are you in good overall health? People in poor health are not candidates for body contouring procedures. We recommend that patients with diabetes, high blood pressure or heart disease first see their primary care doctor for approval to proceed with the surgery.
  • Nutrition: Is your nutrition good? Problems such as protein deficiencies can impede healing.
  • Psychological status: Recovering from body contouring is challenging, and requires mental stamina. Are you psychologically prepared?
  • Expectations: Realistic expectations are a must. Body contouring will lead to marked improvements in your shape and self-esteem, but cannot completely restore the body to what it was before the weight gain and does leave behind well-hidden surgical incisions.

The New You

Plastic surgery after weight loss is like putting the finishing touches on a masterpiece — refining the new, thinner you. If you want your body to reflect the new, more positive image you have of yourself, make an appointment with Dr. Horvath to discuss your options.

Labial Reduction

Large labia are not uncommon and are typically the result of normal congenital variation. Enlarged labia can cause physical discomfort that limits clothing choices. Dr. Horvath performs labial reduction by surgically removing the excess tissue while placing the incisions carefully to avoid changes in sensation, and minimize the risk of a tender scar. Labial reduction may involve the labia majora, labia minora, the clitoral hood or the introitus. Dr. Horvath is familiar with the different techniques needed to address each component that is of concern to the patient. Labial reduction can result in an improved balance in normal body structures with improved comfort and self-confidence.
