Rhinoplasty in Philadelphia and Montgomery County
If you feel that an oversized or crooked nose is taking away from your overall facial beauty and self-confidence, then it may be time for rhinoplasty. One of the most popular facial rejuvenation procedures performed today, rhinoplasty reshapes and resizes the nose to enhance facial harmony.
Dr. David Horvath is the plastic surgeon Philadelphia patients trust for beautiful and natural-looking rhinoplasty results. As a seasoned surgeon, Dr. Horvath understands that successful rhinoplasty requires a delicate balance of surgical training and artistry. Dr. Horvath is renowned in both aspects and uses them to provide superior rhinoplasty results.
Am I a Candidate for Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty can be performed to address various cosmetic and functional concerns including:
- Oversized nose
- Crooked or asymmetrical nose
- Bulbous, upturned or droopy nasal tip
- Oversized nostrils
- Bump on the bridge of the nose
- Deviated septum
- Enlarged turbinates and airway problems
Candidacy for rhinoplasty is determined on a case-by-case basis. Dr. Horvath will meet with you personally to conduct a physical evaluation of your nose. Dr. Horvath also has imaging technology to draw on your photos and provide a better understanding of your goals and expected realistic outcome. He will also discuss your cosmetic concerns and goals in detail with you. Based on this information, Dr. Horvath may suggest combining rhinoplasty with other facial rejuvenation (e.g., chin augmentation or reduction, eyelid surgery, facelift or dermal fillers) to produce more comprehensive and natural-looking results.
Rhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure, typically under general anesthesia. There are two main techniques used for rhinoplasty: the open technique and the closed technique. In the open technique, Dr. Horvath will create an incision on the columella, the strip of skin that divides the nostrils. The open technique is favored by many surgeons because it gives them more visibility when operating on the patient. However, this technique typically requires a longer recovery and a visible, yet very small, scar.
During the closed technique, Dr. Horvath will make an incision on the inside of the nostrils, which means no visible scarring and a shorter recovery. However, this technique often provides less visibility for the surgeon during the operation.
The details of your rhinoplasty procedure will depend on the extent of correction needed. For oversized noses, Dr. Horvath will remove cartilage to create a more proportional nose. For small noses, the doctor may use a cartilage graft from another body area. He will also make other necessary corrections, such as smoothing out an unattractive bump on the bridge, or resizing and reshaping large or asymmetrical nostrils. If necessary, Dr. Horvath will make changes to the underlying nasal structure to improve breathing.
Recovery and Results
Following rhinoplasty, you may experience swelling, bruising and soreness in the nose and face. These side effects are only temporary and should subside within a few weeks after surgery. Dr. Horvath will provide you with detailed instructions for you to follow during your recovery, including when to resume normal activities.
The results from rhinoplasty can be life-changing. In addition to a better-looking nose, you will notice that your entire facial appearance improves. Your self-confidence skyrockets as you are no longer embarrassed or self-conscious about your nose. In addition, breathing becomes easier after rhinoplasty, allowing you to sleep and exercise more comfortably.
